About Me

My purpose is to guide others into the imaginative space where transformation happens—the place where opposites dissolve into a deeper wholeness. In my work, change is not an obstacle but a teacher, and creativity becomes a bridge between body and spirit. Through expressive arts, I help individuals reconnect with their inner wisdom and experience the creative–spiritual oneness that brings healing, insight, and renewal.

My Journey

I am Tomoko Murakami — an artist, educator, and expressive arts facilitator in training with the Tamalpa Life/Art Process.

For over 35 years, I have taught art to diverse communities, ranging from children to seniors, in a variety of settings, including museums and grassroots workshops. My creative practice began in printmaking — large-scale woodblock prints on silk and paper — and has expanded into installation, movement, and ritual arts.

In recent years, I have embarked on a new journey: weaving art, movement, writing, and nature into practices that foster healing, belonging, and personal growth. The Tamalpa Life/Art Process, created by Anna and Daria Halprin, serves as the foundation through which I connect body, imagination, and life.

My Approach

At MAYU: The Unfolding Studio, I invite participants to enter their own “chrysalis.” Through movement, drawing, writing, and nature-based practices, we open a space where expression becomes a mirror of life.

  • Movement awakens the body’s stories.
  • Art gives form to feelings, dreams, and imagination.
  • Writing provides a platform for reflection and a fresh perspective.
  • Nature restores our sense of belonging and wholeness.

This work is not centered on performance or product. It is about the process — a way of listening to the body, giving voice to inner landscapes, and finding pathways to renewal.

Why I Do This Work

My art life has always been more than a career — it is a calling. Teaching, creating, and now facilitating expressive arts have shown me how creativity opens the door to connection: with self, with others, and with the natural world.

Each of us carries an inner wisdom waiting to unfold. In the studio, in nature, and in community, we can awaken that wisdom and bring it into life.
